13 Nov Dwellingup National Trail Centre
Works on this project continue into the 2019/20 financial year to transform Dwellingup into a national and future international trails town and assist with the establishment of a sustainable economy for the town.
This project will maximise Dwellingup’s natural assets as well as boost the attraction of Hotham Valley Tourist Railway by linking the railway to the town’s trail networks, creating a truly unique tourism experience.
The main components of the project include:
- Visitor Centre Expansion – redevelopment of the Dwellingup History and Visitor Information Centre into a new and expanded National Trail Centre with a café, bike shop & hire, additional toilets, laundry and hot showers
- New skate park & pump track (opened in April 2019), adventure playground, entertainment stage, additional barbeque and picnic facilities and significant upgrades to parking, pathways and signage
- Hotham Valley Railway Rail Relocation & turntable project (completed in September 2018)
- Realignment of the Munda Biddi Trail and Bibbulmun track through the town to meet at the new Trails Centre
The opening of the new pump track and skate park saw hundreds of people turn out to be among the first to test out the new facilities. These were the first two components of the national trails town project to be completed.
Riders and skaters dropped in to the new facilities, negotiating the asphalt circuit of the pump track and carving the rails, ramps, half and quarter pipes, banks, ledges and curbs of the skate park. Since its opening, it’s been packed with skaters and riders enjoying the awesome new attractions.
Trail development close to town also continues with over 15km of new mountain bike trail completed as part of the Murray Valley Mountain Bike Trails Network, with a further 20km still to come. For further project information visit the Shire of Murray website.
Dwellingup is well on its way to becoming a Western Australian trails town.
