13 Dec Australian MTB Summit
WestCycle’s Mountain Bike Manager, Peta Demidenko, has this week been attending the Australian Mountain Bike Summit at Mt Buller. The two-day summit is a critical forum dedicated to the needs of the mountain biking industry. The program featured national and international guest speakers, great networking opportunities and of course the chance to ride the Mount Buller trails. The key message of this year’s summit is #moretrailsplease.
This years Summit was attended by a broad spectrum of delegates from the mountain bike industry, local clubs, state government, land managers and councils. Having people from all areas of the MTB community who were all passionate about growing MTB in Australia really enhanced the atmosphere of the summit. All of the delegates are looking towards master planning and how to drive strategic development. The Summit allowed for the opportunity to not only learn from the guest speakers but also from the experience and success of other delegates.
Peta ran the workshop sessions on Master planning: strategy to execution – creating mountain bike Mecca in Western Australia. This meant that the great work that has been developed within WA was very much the topic of discussion. WA is creating some of the best MTB trails in the world and the rest of Australia wants to know how we do it.It was apparent that there is a demand for more trails as members of the mountain bike community were joining the summit to ask for advice on how best to proceed with developments.
There were many opportunities to experience all the great trails that Mount Buller has to offer. With a guided ride on the Sunday, the choices to try the gravity trails or go out for a guided XC ride and a group ride on the last day down the Delatite River Trail. Overall it was great conference, great networking event and fantastic riding at Mount Buller!
