04 Aug MTBA National Championships
As part of the WA High Performance Strategy, 43 talented junior mountain bikers took part in the first ever WA State Mountain Bike Squad. They had the opportunity to attend some great coaching sessions, camps and workshops. There were 8 State Squad training sessions conducted (both Cross Country and Downhill disciplines) by the State Junior Development Coach, Mark Wardle and 6 State Assistant Coaches – Dean Davies, Ian Longville, Graeme Adams, Katja Alsop, Reece Tucknott and Deon Baker.
A team of 41 riders attended the MTBA National Championships in March 2017 at Gold Coast. Team WA trained and supported each other across both disciplines. Of Team WA, 16 riders represented WA wearing the ‘Black and Gold’ at the National Champs.
Team WA arrived in Queensland only to disappointingly find out that MTBA had made the decision to cancel the downhill component of the 2017 MTB National Champs due to bad weather. But this did not stop the riders from gaining some awesome experience.
Planning has already commenced for the 2017/2018 training environment.
